Miami's South Beach has its share of swanky hotels as HD Boutique attendees can surely attest, but Las Vegas remains the reigning resort king. Need evidence of its staying power? Look no farther than the newly opened red rock Casino, resort, and Spa, reportedly the first billion-dollar property to be developed off of The Strip.
Shown here is the stunning lobby, complete with crystal lighting fixtures custom-designed by Freidmutter group and manufactured by Preciosa International. At right is the main chandelier (Model #044 634 132), which is comprised of 185,993 Preciosa Premium brand 30percent lead, machine-cut crystals. It measures 31' 6" high and is 5 feet in diameter. Weighing more than 2,500 lbs., the fixture contains 132 incandescent 60-watt lamps.
“This fixture represents the ultimate in crystal density,” notes Scott glaser, president of Preciosa International, Inc., located in Williamsville, New York. “The biggest challenge was finding the space to mount all the crystals. There is no room to place a single extra crystal on this magnificent chandelier!”
The 22'-high cylindrical pendant in the center of the photograph is also highly unusual. Model #044 580 042 incorporates both fiber optic and halogen light sources and measures 4' 7" in diameter. “The most difficult task was the engineering and development of an invisible, but rigid, frame to hold each crystal tight while maintaining the solid geometry. This new framing method eliminates the common crystal chandelier problem of loose-hanging or sagging crystals,” glaser points out. This fixture is made with 21,440 Preciosa Premium brand crystals and is illuminated with 42 g-9 halogens.
