INGENIOUS INSPIRATION
Innovative designs and ideas sparked creativity and pumped excitement into lighting assortments at the 2007 International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF®).
The 33 wooden lanterns from British Columbia-based artist Brent Comber lend an earthy, “cantina” note to Stephen Hanson’s Dos Caminos restaurant in New York City. Comber hollowed out massive chunks of Douglas fir, piercing the sides to permit light to escape. Each is suspended with heavy chain and features a perforated diffuser to modulate the illumination.
It's a far cry from his Blue Fin establishment designed by the creative team of George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg. B.R. Guest Restaurants founder Hanson tapped the duo a second time to create the urban yet Baja atmosphere of the first Dos Caminos restaurant on Park Avenue South. The Toronto/New York designers utilized several Canadian firms to supply elements for the project including fabrics and punched tin pendants to produce a space that would complement the sophisticated Mexican cuisine.
